Radio tug-of-war continues with Kyle and Jackie O reclaiming breakfast

Kyle and Jackie O are back on top as the battle for Sydney breakfast continues with WSFM's Jonesy and Amanda losing their hold on the FM category against ARN stablemates Kyle and Jackie O in the latest GfK ratings surveys. WSFM gained  0.7 percentage points to hit 10.5% audience share. Jonesy and Amanda remained stable with 9.9% of the audience but the station took out the overall FM lead with 8.8% total audience.

Kiis1065 continued its growth from last ratings period in the 18-24 demographic, gainsing 4.3 percentage points to a 17.5% share of the market and saw a slight bump in the youth audience, picking up 0.6 percentage points in the 10-17 age bracket. WSFM also gained 1.3 percentage points in the 18-24 category and gained 2 points in the 55-64 age group but saw slight falls in all other demographics.

However both breakfast stations have edged closer to ABC702 which dropped 2.1 percentage points in the ratings to 9.9% share.

2GB still dominates the breakfast segment with a 14.1% share of audience despite losing 1.9 percentage points and has the highest audience share of 12.3% despite shedding 0.9 points over the ratings period.

In the highly competitive drive time, Nova is out in front of the other FM stations with 8.9% audience share, a 0.3 point gain  from last survey. ABC702 saw the biggest fall in audience in the category, with a 2.7 point drop, but it still holds the most audience share of all drive stations at 10.0%.

Fresh from several announcements about format changes going into the next year, the 2Day network remained relatively flat, holding a stable total audience share of 3.6% and dropping slightly to hit 2.9% share of breakfast.

Melbourne still tight, AM rules

It's still a tight fought battle in Melbourne with five stations holding tight on share. Gold, Mix 101.1 Triple M, Nova and Smooth all fell within a 1.8 point window, ranging from 6.7 points to 8.5.

AM stations still remain king in Melbourne with 3AW and ABC774 taking out the breakfast and morning slots, but Nova and FoxFM are starting to make progress in the drive market while 3AW sheds listeners across the board.

While 3AW still has a commanding market position together with ABS774, it has shed listeners in every single time slots and every single demographic, except in the 65+ demo.

Overall the station lost 1.4 points overall, making the station the host of the largest swing either for or against during the ratings period.

For the breakfast slots, 3AW and ABC774 took home a 16.7 and 15.4 share respectively while of the FM players, 3MMM fared the best.

Meanwhile, 3AW and ABC774 also took out the morning slot with Gold the nearest competition.

Meanwhile in drive Nova100 and FoxFM proved to be fast climbers, with Nova with 9.5% share in the drive segment after a slight gain, coming close to FoxFM and ABC774's 10.1% and 10.3% shares.

Both the commercial stations benefited from a 1.9 point drop in listeners from 3AW, which led the category during the last survey but now finds itself in fourth place.

Breaking down the demographics, FoxFM won the 18-24 demographic, and while Nova 100 took out the 25-39 market it also saw a 5.3 point drop in the 10-17 market.

Also concerned would be Triple M, which is in danger of losing the 40-54 market after posting a 2.4 point loss in the market, with listeners switching to ABC774.

AWW gained in the 65+ market, it lost out in the 55-64 market with a 5.4 point swing against the station recorded.

Brisbane: ARN takes breakfast crown

ARN’s 97.3FM continues to lead the pack by a small margin in Brisbane with a total audience share of 13%, but is being chased by rival Nova who comes a close second in this survey after increasing its share on 106.9FM by 1.4 percentage points to 12.9%.

Four stations share a second tier of audience market share, each hovering around the 8-9% mark: ABC612 is the only station to have witnessed a significant fall with a 2.1 percentage point drop off to 9.4%. SCA’s B105.3 has climbed .4 percentage points to 9%, while SCA’s Triple M has fallen .9 points to 8.7% and Triple J is down .4 points to 8%.

ABC’s has lost its breakfast crown in the city after haemorrhaging 2.9 points, slipping from 15.1% to 12.2% in this survey, meaning that, despite slipping three percentage points, ARN’s Robin, Terry and Bob are leading the breakfast pack on 97.3FM with a 12.6% audience share. Nova’s 106.9FM Ash, Kip and Luttsy’s breakfast show falls in third place with a 12.4% audience share.

Nova has increased its Drivetime share by 2.4 points to 16.5%, by far leading the pack in the city. ARN’s comes in second with a share of 14%, while SCA’s B105.3 climbs .4 points to 10.5%.

Perth: Mix on the up.
Nova's Mix 94.5 continues to dominate overall listening in Perth, winning a 14.5% share, an increase of 0.9 percentage points on the last survey. It also increased its share across all time slots and solid gains in all demos except 10 -17 year olds and the 55-65 market.

Meanwhile Nova 93.7 made losses across all time slots, except the morning, and losses across all demographics expect the 25 – 39 and 55-65 demos.

In the drive time slot, Nova 93.7 took the lead again, despite dropping 1.1 percentage points earning it a share of 15.5% of the market. Followed by Lisa And Tim on Mix 94.5. Southern Cross Austereo's 92.9 made the biggest gains adding 1.3 percentage points and rising to a 10.2% share of the audience.

In breakfast, ABC took the greatest share of listeners with 14.2% followed by ARN's Mix 94.5's Clairsy, Shane and Kymba show, which also made the biggest gains during the survey period adding 1.3 percentage points to gold a 14% share, closing the gap between it and the ABC station.

96FM dropped the most listeners in breakfast dropping 1.4 percentage points to 8.5% share of audience.

Weekday listening was dominated by Mix94.5 which holds are 14.9% share of the market, increasing 1 percentage point during the period., followed by Nova 93.7 which dipped 0.1 percentage points to 13.6% share.

Mix94.5 also took the greatest share of the weekend market with13.4% share

In listeners over 10, 96FM made the biggest losses, dropping 1.3 percentage points to a 9.4% share of listeners. SCA's 92.9 made the biggest gains adding 1 percentage point and earning an 8.4% share.

96FM made the biggest gains in the youth market adding 5.7 percentage points to a 12.5% share of the 18-24 market.

Adelaide: ARN holds overall top spot and pinches breakfast slot from ABC891

In terms of total audience share, ARN has comfortably clung on to the top spot in Adelaide, with its Mix102.3 station reaching 14.6% of the audience share across demographics. However, this was a slight drop ( -0.6) from the 15.2% of the audience share it held in the last survey.

Nova91.9 has overtaken ABD to second place in overall ratings, holding the same 11.8% share it recorded in the last survey, but following a 0.9 point drop from ABC 891 to an 11.3% share.

In the breakfast radio slot, despite a 0.5 point drop, Mix102.3 takes poll position with 14.9% - taking the former breakfast spot from ABC891, which drops to second place with 14.7% of the audience, which is a decrease from 15.9% in the last poll.

Triple J made the biggest gains increasing 1.7 points to 6.6%.

Third most popular breakfast spot station was taken by FiveAA with 13.0% and fourth was secured by Triple M with a 9.5% share - which is up from 8.9% in the previous survey.

Most popular station during drive time was Nova91.9, which also took the top spot in drive in the last survey. It led with 14.6% of audience share, which was a 0.9 percentage point decline.

Second most listened to drive time station goes to Mix102.3 with 12.8% and third spot was taken by FiveAA, with an audience share of 11.9%.
