Pitch Wrap - Tourism Australia shortlist revealed, PHD gets two, Afterpay up

AdNews wraps up the biggest pitch news and wins from the last fortnight.

The Tourism Australia pitch shortlist

Accenture, Publicis Groupe and Clemenger BBDO are on the shortlist for Tourism Australia's (TA) last stage of pitch, AdNews revealed.

The account has moved to a panel model, with one or more agencies partnering to pitch for both the creative and digital account. Insiders say the winner will be decided in two months.

Incumbent M&C Saatchi, which partnered with independent hot shop Howatson+Company, is out of the running, according to insiders.

Initiative wins Crown Resorts pitch

Entertainment group Crown Resorts has appointed Initiative as its media agency of record, following a competitive pitch.

The incumbent, dentsu media agency Carat, which had held the account still the casino giant's launch in 1994, didn't re-pitch. 

PHD extends ANZ Bank account

Banking giant ANZ has extended its media contract with incumbent PHD, AdNews revealed.

The win comes after unconfirmed reports that the media account was going to pitch. AdNews can confirm there were no plans for a pitch.

Afterpay out to pitch

Afterpay's media account is out to pitch, according to industry insiders.

The buy now, pay later player appointed Initiative in 2021 to manage its national media portfolio after a review.

Howatson+Co wins Honda's media pitch

Independent agency Howatson+Co has taken Japanese automaker Honda's media account after a competitive pitch, AdNews revealed.

The aim of the pitch was to combine all of Honda's products, from vehicles to power products and engines, in one account.

PHD wins McCain pitch

PHD Australia has been appointed the media agency of record for frozen food company McCain following a competitive pitch.

The account, reported to be $10 million plus, will be run out of PHD Melbourne’s office.

The incumbent, cummins&partners, still has the creative account.

VML retains Monash University

Monash University has re-appointed its longstanding creative services partner, VML, following a competitive pitch process.

It will also expand its relationship with WPP to include paid media planning and buying and social strategy. 

Akcelo appointed creative agency SPC Global

Brand experience and innovation company Akcelo has been appointed creative agency for Australian FMCG business SPC Global.

Akcelo will lead strategy, creative and design across the key brand portfolio including SPC, Goulburn Valley and Ardmona.

CX Lavender wins Scenic World and InterHealthcare pitches

Full-service independent agency CX Lavender (CXL) has won Blue Mountains tourist attraction Scenic World and general practice allied health network InterHealthcare pitches.

CXL’s digital CX engagement will support Scenic World's evolving customer promotion, planning and the business’s growing commerce needs.

Richards Rose appointed to charity Thread Together

Independent creative agency Richards Rose has entered into a three year marketing agreement with charity Thread Together.

Richards Rose is tasked with developing Thread Together’s brand strategy, brand identity and marketing communications across all channels.

Yango wins media account for EV Direct

Independent media agency Yango has been appointed by EV Direct, exclusive distributor of electric vehicle manufacturer BYD in Australia, to launch the brand and multiple vehicle options into the local market.

Adcore re-appointed by OZSALE

Australian online outlet marketplace OZSALE has re-appointed performance media tech agency Adcore to its global performance media account.

The Melbourne based agency will continue to partner with OZSALE’s marketing team on SEM, paid social and programmatic strategies, with the aim to continue the upwards trajectory of the AU market and other international regions including NZ.

G Squared wins Meriton Suites pitch

Meriton Suites has appointed digital consultancy G Squared to lead digital strategy, paid media and search engine optimisation.

G Squared, which won the business following a pitch, was selected to support Meriton Suites’ ongoing hotel growth and to drive online bookings, as well as incorporating its online shop. 

EssenceMediacom Australia retains Mable

EssenceMediacom has retained Mable, a technology company that connects people with disability and aged care support Mable, following a competitive pitch process.

The account will continue to be serviced out of Sydney led by client partner Daniel Morgan.

Paper Moose appointed creative agency for Real Insurance

Real Insurance has awarded its creative account to independent agency Paper Moose.

Nick Hunter, founding CEO at Paper Moose, says what drew the agency to this pitch was Real Insurance’s commitment to effectiveness and their dedication to direct marketing fundamentals.

Resolution Digital expands Poolwerx account

Pool and spa maintenance network Poolwerx has appointed Resolution Digital as its full stack agency.

Poolwerx has engaged the advisory services of Resolution Digital  since 2023. In 2024 the partnership expanded to become a full suite of online services for Poolwerx through digital media and marketing.
