Pitch Wrap - GroupM gets Specsavers, UM wins fed gov, Volvo pitch, ANZ shortlist

AdNews wraps up the biggest pitch news and wins from the last fortnight.

GroupM's EssenceMediacom wins Specsavers media pitch

Specsavers has appointed GroupM’s EssenceMediacom as its media agency in Australia and New Zealand.

The announcement follows a four-month pitch process which began back in April when the optical and audiology brand invited media agencies across ANZ to submit an expression of interest to respond to an RFI and be invited to pitch for the Trans-Tasman media account. 

Bringing both national needs and local knowledge to the Australian and New Zealand markets, the agency will work in partnership with Specsavers’ marketing teams, creative and PR agencies. 

Volvo's global media account goes to pitch

Swedish automaker Volvo Cars has called a global media pitch, initiated by its head office in Gothenburg, AdNews can confirm.

Incumbent GroupM media agency Mindshare has held the account globally and in Australia for 25 years.

GroupM gave no local comment, and it is unclear how this pitch will affect Australia.

WhiteGREY, which has been absorbed into AKQA this year, is Volvo’s local creative agency.

UM reappointed to federal government master media account

IPG media agency Universal McCann (UM) has been reselected as the federal government's master media agency, following a competitive tender. 

UM beat Omnicom's PHD which was confirmed by AdNews to be in the final shortlist.

One of Australia's largest indies, Atomic 212, made an earlier shortlist for the pitch, industry insiders say.

Four agencies shortlisted for ANZ creative pitch

Leo Burnett, dentsu, The Monkeys and BMF have been shortlisted for ANZ Bank's creative agency pitch, AdNews can confirm.

Incumbent Special, which has held the account for three years, is out of the running.

Industry insiders say Special withdrew from the pitch.

However, ANZ said parting ways was a mutual decision by both organisations, general manager of marketing Australia Sian Chadwick told AdNews.

Mindshare reappointed to University of Melbourne

GroupM agency Mindshare has extended its partnership with the University of Melbourne for another three years. 

The partnership includes an expanded remit tapping into Mindshare’s transformation consultancy and connections planning capabilities to deliver on key growth areas for the University of Melbourne. 

Howatson+Company wins DuluxGroup's Selleys pitch

DuluxGroup has appointed Howatson+Company to work on its Selleys business, following a competitive pitch.

The DuluxGroup includes Dulux Paints, British Paints, Yates and B&D Group.

Ryvalmedia's new business wins

RyanCap's digital-first media agency Ryvalmedia has had several new client wins and retentions over the past six months across its Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane offices.

New partnerships include Millbrook Group, Machines4U, Fixed Teeth Australia, Guide Dogs ACT/NSW, Deco Rugs, Narellan Pools, Aletek, and The Jungle Tribe. 

Phillip Island Nature Park account goes to pitch

Victoria's Phillip Island Nature Park advertising account is open for tender.

The non-for-profit conservation park's last pitch in 2021 saw global digital agency Croud win the account, after an eleven agency shortlist.

The term of the contract will be two years with an option to extend.

Revium wins GWM's digital account

Digital and AI consultancy Revium has been appointed digital agency of record for Great Wall Motors Australia and New Zealand (GWM ANZ), following a competitive pitch process.

Over the past 12 months Revium has delivered a series of successful one-off digital projects for GWM.

The appointment, effective October 1, will see Revium working alongside Thinkerbell, the newly appointed creative agency of record.

Spinach wins Haymes Paint pitch

Integrated Melbourne agency Spinach has been appointed by Haymes Paint as its lead communications partner following a competitive pitch.

Haymes Paint, established in 1935 and family-owned, is available through more than 350 stockists across Australia including 57 Haymes Paint Shops and 34 PaintRight stores.

Paper + Spark wins Campbells Wholesale pitch

Creative communications and marketing consultancy Paper + Spark has been appointed as the full-service digital marketing agency for distribution company Campbells Wholesale.

Campbells Wholesale is part of the Metcash Group and operates an network of 14 sites across the country supporting independent retailers nationwide.

Following a competitive agency pitch process, Paper + Spark will overhaul Campbells Wholesale’s digital ecosystem from content strategy, content development and implementation, paid media campaigns, and ongoing analytics and optimisation.

Mindbox wins Dementia Australia media pitch

Independent marketing consultancy Mindbox has won Dementia Australia’s integrated marketing and media account following a  pitch process involving agencies UM, PHD and OMD. 

Mindbox will co-design and activate public-facing campaign strategies.

Affinity wins ActewAGL pitch

Utilities company ActewAGL has signed with Affinity for its full-service marketing remit, following a competitive market process. 

The scope covers brand, product strategy, creative and campaign development, customer experience, MarTech and digital.

Carat WA wins Harvest Road Group account

Dentsu's Carat Western Australia has been appointed to cattle, beef and aquaculture business Harvest Road Group.

Carat will be responsible for media strategy, planning, and buying services.

Media Republic wins VENTORA

Independent agency Media Republic has been awarded the media services account for a suite of brands under the VENTORA umbrella including Stegbar, Regency, and Trend Windows and Doors.

The agency will develop and implement media strategies to boost brand presence, expand market reach and drive sales.
