Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA) union members at Nine Entertainment walked off the job today following a pay dispute.

Wearing shirts and holding signs with a 'Don't Torch Journalism' slogan, Nine publishing colleges from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth stopped work at 11am, logging off for the next five days.

The titles affected include the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian Financial Review, Brisbane Times and WAtoday.

According to the Guardian, sources say striking staff have been locked out of the publishing system and logged out of the internal messaging system Slack.

"It's a tough day, no one wants to be doing this, but we feel like we've been forced to do this," one striker told the Sydney crowd.

"We asked them to come to the table with an offer or we're walking out. And we have so congratulations to you for sticking by your word."
