Nine's Pedestrian Group has taken ownership of American Express Openair Cinemas which was brought into the Nine portfolio following its merger with Fairfax.

Openair Cinema was previously owned by Fairfax Events, along with the City2Surf which was recently sold to the The Ironman Group.

As part of the shift in ownership, the Openair Cinemas team, led by John Amrhein, will move into Pedestrian’s office but will continue to operate independently with support from Pedestrian Group’s partnership and studio teams.

“American Express Openair Cinemas is the perfect fit for the Pedestrian Group, where we’re all about unbridled creativity,” says Pedestrian Group CEO Matt Rowley.

“From bringing our brands and our clients’ brands to life via the big screen, to innovative pop-up activations and fully themed festivals in multiple cities, the possibilities are insane.”

Openair Cinemas currently has 10 locations across Australia and New Zealand.
