Kym Pfitzner, CEO of Australian Red Cross and a long-time figure in the media industry, passed away suddenly last Sunday evening. He was 59.
He had been with the Australian Red Cross for just under four years. Before that time he spent more than 25 years in the media industry.
He was COO, CFO and head of M&A at Publicis Groupe for more than six years
He spent 13 years with Aegis/dentsu in Australia, Singapore and China as CEO COO, CFO and head of M&A.
"This is where I met and worked with Kym," says Joy Clark. "He was a truly wonderful man with an incredibly humble and respectful approach to leadership, and extremely well liked in the industry. All are saddened and of course shocked to hear this devastating news."
Ashish Bhasin, founder The Bhasin Consulting Group, and previously CEO APAC and chairman India at Dentsu, said Kym was a rare individual who could see the big picture, form incredible relationships as well as drive high levels of ethics while delivering results.
"We started of as colleagues, but over the years Kym became a dear dear friend and his not being around has left the industry, and me personally, with a void that will be hard to fill," says Bhasin.
"Our regular banter over cricket, particularly when India and Australia were playing, the laughter and humour and the great bonds that Kym built all around him, will always have a special place in my heart. Until we meet again, my friend, and I continue teasing you about not finishing your beers, know that you are missed terribly but cherished for everything you stood for.”
Acting CEO of The Australian Red Cross, Penny Harrison: "Kym leaves behind a legacy that will live on at the Australian Red Cross for many, many years to come. He was fiercely passionate about inclusion and always championing the benefits of organisational diversity throughout his career.
"From his strategic excellence which has ensured Australian Red Cross’ ability to support those in need well into the future, to his incredibly humble and respectful approach to leadership, Kym was admired by many both inside and outside of Australian Red Cross. He was an exceptional CEO. Kym will be remembered as a trusted confidant, inspiring mentor, and true friend.”
Kym is survived by his wife Amanda, daughter Rachel and son, Sam.
