The 9Network achieved a national total television reach of 19.5 million across Channel 9, 9Gem and 9Now for its coverage of the 2024 Olympics Games in Paris.
Week 1 of Nine’s broadcast of the Olympic Games delivered a National Total Television reach of 17.5 million (the highest weekly reach in VOZ history), while Week 2 delivered a National Total Television reach of 16.6 million (the second highest weekly reach in VOZ history).
Since the Opening Ceremony on July 27, the Olympics contributed to a daily average National Total TV Reach of 9.9 million viewers across Channel 9, 9Gem and 9Now.
The network's BVOD service 9Now also saw strong results - the platform achieved a 16% incremental reach, with 2.7 million viewers tuning in exclusively to the Olympics through 9Now out of an overall National Reach of 7.5 million.
Stan, the broadcaster's streaming service, had its highest viewing day since the launch of Stan Sport. This exceeded the previous pre-Olympics record by more than 60%.
The opening week of Paris 2024 competition also set a new viewing benchmark on Stan Sport, outperforming the previous record by more than 300%.
Stan’s international and multi-language offering saw one in seven viewers enjoying the action across the eight exclusive channels on Stan Sport; Sky New Zealand’s channel, the UK channel via Eurosport and Viacom18’s Indian channel saw the greatest viewership.
Nine's director of television Michael Healy said the widespread and enduring engagement across all of the company's platforms is a testament to the unique and powerful connection Australians have with the Games.
"I am so immensely proud of the outstanding coverage our broadcast team delivered," he said.
Stan CEO Martin Kugeler said Australia’s response has exceeded all the company's expectations.
"With the most comprehensive offering in Australia’s Olympic history, we achieved a record breaking Stan Sport subscriber growth of over 50% - surpassing forecasts, making the Olympics a great success for Stan," he said.
Nine has the top 10 commercial free-to-air programs of the year-to-date, with five of those being Olympic night sessions; the other events include State of Origin Games 1-3, State of Origin 1st Pre Match and the Australian Open Men's Final.
Nine’s Olympics coverage also led to 9News recording its ten highest rating bulletins of the year over the past two weeks.
The Paralympic Games Paris 2024 will be broadcast on the 9Network and 9Now from Thursday, August 29.
