Nine faces legal action over photographs of John Singleton's daughter

By AdNews | 11 April 2025

Ashley Wildey, the partner of Dawn Singleton, one of six killed in the Bondi Junction knife attack a year ago, is reportedly taking legal action against Nine for using photographs he took of adman John Singleton’s daughter.

The case centres on alleged breaches of the Copyright Act.

Nine Entertainment is expected to defend using the "fair dealing" section of the act which exempts reporting of news.

The breaches were alleged to have been made by Nine’s 60 Minutes and the Sydney Morning Herald.

The NSW Supreme Court action was taken following an interview with John Singleton in which he called for an inquest into his daughter to be abandoned.

The Guardian reports the case is due to return to court in May.
