Nine Entertainment Company's events arm, Nine Live, has expanded into New Zealand with a partnership with media company MediaWorks giving it access to 97% of the population.
Announcing the deal today, Nine Live said that it would form a joint venture with local cross-media owner MediaWorks, combining Nine Live's touring and events expertise with MediaWorks' understanding of the local market and its media assets.
It is estimated MediaWorks' assets can reach 97% of the population, or 3.8 million people.
The new entity, known as MediaWorks Nine Live, will focus on the New Zealand market and are already mulling a few ideas.
These include the local launch of social media festival Amplify, a major international ice hockey tournament, music acts, and a “soon to be announced arena spectacular that is a must see for the whole family”.
Nine enters the New Zealand market at a time when the economy is on a tear, with analysts predicting the New Zealand dollar could reach parity with the Australian currency sooner rather than later.
It was rumoured that Seven West Media was kicking the tyres at MediaWorks late last year, but this speculation was dismissed by MediaWorks.
