The Australian and news.com.au were the only two news websites in the top ten to increase unique audiences in June compared to May, according to Nielsen’s Digital Content Ratings.
The audience at The Australian was 0.8% higher at 3.12 million. News.com.au lifted 1.1% to 9.67 million.
ABC News Websites fell 3.6% but still retained the top position, with a unique audience of 12.4 million for June.
Daily Mail Australia fell 4.6% but ranked second with a unique audience of 10.2 million, followed by nine.com.au with 10 million and news.com.au with 9.7 million. 7NEWS was fifth with 9 million.
Nine of the top ten ranked CEGN sites held the same ranking for June 2020 when compared to the previous month.
The Australian replaced the Daily Telegraph in the tenth spot. This is the first time that The Australian has featured in the top ten since March.
Most of the top ten news sites lost weight in June compared to May.
However, Australian audiences spent 36.7% more time engaging with news content online when compared to the same month in 2019.
According to Nielsen’s Digital Content Ratings, the most substantial percentage increase was via computers, with a 41.9% rise in total time spent. Mobile was up 33.7% compared to June 2019.
