News Corp Australia has launched a consumer marketing campaign for its inaugural SuperCoach NBL, the new fantasy sports platform for the National Basketball League, featuring Australian basketball player Josh Giddey.
The SuperCoach NBL campaign features the tagline 'Stop Dribbling, Start Playing' and will be running across News Corp Australia’s state and regional mastheads in digital and print, as well as radio, television and social media.
Giddey was catapulted into NBA superstardom as pick number six for the Oklahoma City Thunder after making an impact playing NBL for the Adelaide 36ers as an 18-year-old in 2020-21.
He will also provide a series of columns to SuperCoach NBL and manage his own team in supercoach.com.au.
The campaign has been developed by News Corp Australia’s in-house creative agency, Roller.
News Corp Australia’s head of fantasy sports, Paul Zines, said he was excited to launch the company’s first SuperCoach NBL campaign and introduce Giddey to the SuperCoach team.
“SuperCoach is Australia’s most popular and prominent fantasy sports franchise and we’re thrilled to be partnering with the NBL and extending the brand to millions of Australians who love basketball,” said Zines.
“Having Australian NBA star Josh Giddey on board is fantastic. Community is a big part of the success of SuperCoach and we’re delighted Josh will also play along and maintain his own team, as well as share his predictions and SuperCoach secrets throughout the season.”
As part of the campaign, SuperCoach NBL and SEN have partnered to launch a nationwide search to discover Australia’s best grassroots basketball coach.
The partnership between the NBL, SEN and SuperCoach will give fans the opportunity to nominate their coach for the chance to share in a prize pool of cash, merchandise and NBL experiences worth more than $10,000.
SEN will support the initiative across national programming on shows including ‘The Run Home with Andy & Gazey’ across Victoria and Northern Territory; ‘The Run Home with Joel & Fletch’ across New South Wales and Queensland; ‘The Run Home with Hayes & Marto’ across Western Australia; ‘The Run Home with Kymbo & The Rooch’ in South Australia and ‘SEN Tassie Breakfast with Tim Paine & Brent Costelloe’ in Tasmania.
Coaches will be judged for being an inspiration to the basketball community, for raising the awareness of basketball and for going above and beyond to promote the enjoyment of basketball.
Entries can be made at searchforthesupercoach.com.au until September 28, 2023.
Announced as the official fantasy game of the NBL in August, the code joins NRL, AFL and BBL in the expanded SuperCoach stable, which has more than 450,000 registered players annually.
Fans will be able to play the free fantasy game, SuperCoach NBL, enabling them to test their skills against their friends and other supporters. The NBL version will include all the features from SuperCoach Plus including team optimiser, trade assist and double weekly cash prizing, plus game features like trade boost.
