News Corp, with strengthening digital subscriptions, will add 100 new editorial roles over the next year.
This will include 30 cadets and 20 digital roles in regions and communities.
"Additional roles will be recruited in the areas of data, audio, visual and video journalism and in segments such as sports, regional, hyperlocal news and new topic areas where audience interest is growing," executive chairman of News Corp Australasia Michael Miller told staff in an email.
"The past 12 months have been a period of economic and business uncertainty, during which we made some significant changes to the operations and portfolio of our business.
"The outstanding growth in subscribers and consumer revenues show that Australians have responded positively to regional and community news and information being delivered digitally. "
The websites of many of News' regional mastheads have been combined with our state mastheads in NSW and Queensland.
Miller says the results so far are positive, with audiences continuing to grow and page views up 22%.
"This is all part of our long-term strategy to reach new audiences in new communities, to boost regional and community coverage and grow our digital subscription business," he says.
The Sunshine Coast Daily and Mackay’s Daily Mercury will return in August as a trial of weekly print editions.
