News.com.au has well and truly cemented its audience lead in the Nielsen Online Ratings for the month of July with the NewsLifeMedia-owned site raking in an audience of 4.1 million, seeing its audience jump 4% year-on-year and 10% compared to June 2015.
Last month the title drew an audience of 3.7 million, with the title now spending nine straight months at the top of the rankings.
According to Nielsen this is the highest ever monthly audience for a current events and global news sub-category website in Australia and the first time a site has broken the 4m unique audience per month barrier.
News.com.au's huge monthly audience means that more than one in five or 23% of online Australians viewed content on the site in July 2015.
The jump comes a few months after NewsLifeMedia rolled out a multimillion-dollar campaign for News.com.au.
Following in second spot is the Fairfax-owned smh.com.au (SMH) with the news site gaining an audience of 3.4 million, which sees its audience hold steady from the previous month.
The top six most-read news sites remain unchanged, with News.com.au and the SMH followed by ABC news websites with an audience of 3.04m. The Daily Mail comes in fourth with an audience of 2.8 million and in fifth spot is ninemsn news websites with an audience of 2.7 million.
The Guardian remains in sixth spot with the title seeing an audience of 1.9 million. The Age has climbed a spot from last month with the title increasing its unique audience by 8% to 1.9 million.
