Woolworths removes Australia Day merchandise 

Woolworths has been forced to remove a line of hats with a map of Australia after the state of Tasmania was missing from the image.

The hats were on sale ahead of Australia Day (26 January), but Woolworths says the hats are expected to be taken off shelves by Wednesday.

Woolworths blamed a supplier for the issue with the map, but that didn’t stop critics for jumping on social media to vent their outrage.

John Seifert named CEO of Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide

John Seifert will take over from outgoing CEO Miles Young in running Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide.

Seifert has had a 37-year career, all of which he has been spent within the Ogilvy network.

His appointment is immediate and while he will retain his duties as chairman and CEO of Ogilvy North America, a replacement is expected to be named.

Pinterest eyes video ads

Social media site Pinterest is looking to roll out a video ad unit as it eyes lucrative advertising dollars.

According to Digiday, the site has briefed out agencies in the US about the new move, but it is not known exactly what format the video ad unit will take.

YouTube creates channel for Super Bowl

With Super Bowl season upon us, YouTube is kicking off its annual AdBlitz program by providing a platform for advertisers to release their ads ahead of the game. The platform provides a way for Google to get in on the biggest day in advertising, being YouTube’s parent company.

The initiative was designed to maximise the value of Super Bowl ads with more chance to go viral prior to the event. So far there are four teaser videos hosted on the YouTube AdBlitz account.

Google used the occasion to announce the expansion of its ‘real-time ads’ program.

Microsoft rumoured to be acquiring InMobi

According to unconfirmed reports led by investment website Seeking Alpha, InMobi has ended acquisition discussions with Google and Yahoo, opting instead for a deal with Microsoft.

The ad/mobile platform company, based in India, says its network boasts more than a billion users per month.

Mark Latham joins SCA; takes on “elitist left”

“Uncompromising” former politician Mark Latham has landed on Triple M with a new podcast and radio show aimed to tackle “political correctness gone berserk”.

The show, called Lathamland, will air from 12-1pm this Friday with a podcast hub on the Triple M site.

A teaser for the podcast notes: political correctness, men being ‘broadly’ victimised, why we shouldn’t raise the GST to 15%, ABC is a closed “Club”, boat people policy and a movie review on Bridge Of Spies.
