PHD wins Carnival Corp media account in US and UK

Cruiser liner company Carnival Corporation has consolidated its media buying and planning with Omnicom's PHD. The decision does not effect Carnival's business in Australia. The company spent US$116 million on media in these markets. PHD was previously the agency for two of the brands in these markets - Carnival Cruise Lines and Cunard Line - and will add Fathom, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, P&O Cruises and Seabourn.

The Royals wins The Melbourne Racing Club

Independent agency The Royals has won the strategic and creative account for The Melbourne Racing Club, following a competitive pitch. The announcement is effective immediately and includes the Caulfield Cup Carnival as well as the 2017 summer and autumn racing campaign periods.

Ex-Society MD joins Red Engine

Ex-Society MD Nicola Swankie has joined creative content agency Red Engine, taking the newly created role of head of innovation. Swankie has more than 10 years' experience in social media and content marketing including roles at Society, Leo Burnett Sydney and The Conscious Organisation.

Swankie, based in Melbourne, will be overseeing Red Engine's national client roster, working closely with agency director and head of strategy Kate Richardson.

Core rebrands; boosts team by six

Core has rebranded as The Core Agency to better reflect the broader range of services it provides. In addition, the agency has made six new hires: senior copywriter Dave Glen, art director Simone Parravicini, senior copywriter Misa McConnell, production director Deepali Dabral, digital designer Eve Lau and account manager Amy Barnes.

WPP AUNZ finalises Exco

WPP AUNZ has finalised its Exco leadership team with two senior executive appointments. CEO of Ogilvy Public Relations Australia Kieran Moore has been appointed to the newly created role of CEO public relations and public affairs, while CEO Australia and New Zealand Kantar Ben Dixon has been appointed to the newly created role of CEO data investment management. As part of the Exco team, both Moore and Dixon will oversee the 26 AUNZ agencies in the group's public relations, public affairs and investment management portfolios.

Australia nominated for 13 INMA Global Media awards

Australia’s news media publishers have received 13 finalist nominations, second only to the USA, in the 2016 =International News Media Association (INMA) Global Media Awards announced this week. Of the 13 Australian nominations, News Corp Australia received 10 nominations, APN News & Media received two and Fairfax Media received one. Fairfax Media also received five nominations for its New Zealand publications, with APN News & Media’s NZME receiving two nominations.

GoPro and Red Bull form partnership

GoPro and Red Bull announced they are joining forces on a multi-year, global partnership that includes content production, distribution, cross-promotion and product innovation. As part of the agreement, Red Bull will receive equity in GoPro and GoPro will become Red Bull’s exclusive provider of point-of-view imaging technology for capturing footage the brand's media productions and events.

Aus marketing team launches site for Cathay Pacific Airways

The Australian marketing team at Cathay Pacific Airways has launched a lifestyle site for the airline, bringing together travel content from a range of Australian and worldwide travel sources – from travel publications, to bloggers, savvy locals and even Cathay Pacific crew. The site, Resident of the World, is the second phase in Cathay Pacific’s Life Well Travelled campaign. See the website here.

Kiosked announces US$10m investment in Asia-Pacific

Kiosked will invset up to US$10 million in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region through to 2017. The publisher monetisation platform expands its global footprint to help media companies commercialise content across multiple devices. Kiosked’s APAC announcement follows the company’s recent doubling of staff and establishment of offices in Tokyo, Sydney, and Shenzhen.
