Facebook to launch fake news tool in Germany

Facebook is launching a tool that identifies and tackles fake news in Germany after politicians threatened to impose severe fines for each fake news item posted on the social network. Facebook will partner with Correctiv, which checks suspicious news items that have been flagged by users in Germany. The move is part of Facebook's efforts to crack down on fake news, and more fact-checking partners are being sought. The social media giant has come under fire after fake news disseminated on its network, which is largely supportive of the alt-right movement, is credited as helping Donald Trump win the recent US election.

Seven to broadcast US Presidential inauguration

The inauguration of 45th American President, Donald Trump, will be broadcast on Seven, as part of a deal with CNN and NBC America. The live coverage will commence Saturday 21 January at 3.00am AEDT and will be anchored by Seven News US bureau chief Mike Amor and chief reporter Chris Reason from Washington DC. Seven political editor Mark Riley and Edwina Bartholomew will co-anchor a special edition of Weekend Sunrise from 6am AEDT Saturday morning to cover the event. Viewers can also watch the historic moment on Seven's catch up service, PLUS7 Live.
