The nerds ruled the night, and this time they won too.

A fresh episode of The Big Bang Theory was the top-rating show of the night, pulling in just over 1.2 million viewers according to the preliminary overnight OzTAM figures, and with a repeat taking out second place it was a double-act which won the night for Nine.

It was a far cry from last Monday when the show had to compete with the X Factor grand final, which rocketed Seven to a double-digit win.

Interestingly, on the previous Monday The Big Bang Theory also managed to rule the night but this didn't translate into an overall win for Nine.

However the nerds managed to translate their dominance into a slight win for the night, with Nine grabbing a 28.3% share to Seven's 27.9%.

Meanwhile a first appearance on Monday for Seven's The Big Adventure netted 662,000 viewers.

Elsewhere, a Party Tricks and Homeland double-act didn't rate, with lead in shows Gold Coast Cops and Territory Cops landing inside the top 20-watched shows for the night while their more prestigious brethern didn't manage to crack to top 20.

OzTAM time-shift numbers for October 20

Meanwhile the latest time-shifted figures are out, with The Blacklist proving the most popular time-shifted program last Monday, with its later 9.50pm timelsot leading to more people electing to record the program.

Interestingly, while Homeland and Party Tricks didn't resonate live, they do have some of the highest time-shifting uplift figures on the schedule with Homeland getting a 63.6% bump and Party Tricks getting a 24% uplift.
