MECCA's Georgie Abay becomes editor of marie claire
Are Media has appointed Georgie Abay as editor of its fashion and beauty brand, marie claire. Abay joins from MECCA Brands, where she was the acting head of content and editorial strategy before moving onto content manager for M-Power, the company’s social-change program that focuses on the advancement of gender equality.
Stu Turner joins Wunderman Thompson as national ECD
Wunderman Thompson Australia has appointed Stu Turner national executive creative director. The change comes as chief creative officer, João Braga, moves on to fresh opportunities in Australia. Turner has worked for many agencies and networks, including Havas, DDB, Saatchi & Saatchi and TBWA. In recent years he made the move over to independent land, most notably at The Royals where he helped grow the business and secure multiple finalists for independent agency of the year.
Mango Melbourne promotes Alex Lefley to GM
Mango Communications Melbourne has promoted Alex Lefley into the position of general manager, charged with leading and growing DDB Group’s PR agency in Victoria. Lefley joined Mango in 2020 as managing partner, and since then, has been instrumental in the agency's growth, winning clients including Funlab, New Balance, and Asahi.
Digital Minds, a full-service media agency which lists paid performance, SEO, CRO, Social and CRM among its specialisations, have brought on three team members. Harry Meech has been appointed as social media director, Tom Dickinson has been appointed as performance director and Simran Kaur has been appointed as senior digital manager.
Fiona Connolly appointed head of lifestyle networks at News Corp
Fiona Connolly has been appointed head of lifestyle networks for News Corp Australia. Connolly, in this new role for the Editorial Innovation Centre (EIC), will be responsible for maximising audience engagement for News Corp Australia’s lifestyle journalism across all masthead channels. She returns to News after leading some of Australia’s magazine titles such as Woman's Day, New Idea, Who and TV Week as they developed from a traditional print base to embrace digital as multi-platform publishers.
Melbourne's Think HQ opens in Sydney
Melbourne-founded social change agency Think HQ has expanded to Sydney, opening an office in Surry Hills. The Sydney team: group account director Blake Mason, account directors Tom Hines and Nickie Flambouras, account manager Evie McCullough. Mason brings more than 12 year’s marketing and communications experience with NPF, government and corporate organisations. Flambouras joins from a four-year role as manager, community engagement at Multicultural NSW. Hines joins from Bite Communications where he worked as senior account manager and McCullough has spent four years working in communications and event management roles in the NFP sector.
Porter Novelli appoints Victoria Fruean to client partner
Clemenger Group communications agency Porter Novelli Australia has appointed Victoria Fruean as its new Sydney lead. Fruean brings more than 15 years’ experience working with global and local brands across a broad range of sectors including retail, property, business, telco, FMCG, manufacturing, health and consumer technology. She will work as part of Porter Novelli’s executive team in her role as client partner – Sydney lead.
