Movers & Shakers: Seven, PHD, Snap, CRA, Nine, Zitcha

It's hard to keep up with all the latest moves across media, marketing and advertising, so we've made a list. Check out some of the biggest moves this week.

Seven's Kurt Burnette, Melissa Hopkins, Lewis Martin go

The redundancy wave at Seven West Media has taken high profile executives including chief revenue officer Kurt Burnette, CMO Melissa Hopkins and head of sport Lewis Martin, sources confirmed. Insiders say 100 people are going from across the company. Staff told AdNews of an agonizing wait to see who will get called next to be told of their redundancy. 

Lizzie Young becomes CRA's CEO

Lizzie Young will become the CEO of industry body Commercial Radio & Audio (CRA). She takes over August 7 from Ford Ennals who resigned in April after serving for two years. Young was most recently the APAC CEO and global growth officer for WeAre8 before departing earlier this year. Prior to WeAre8, she held the position of MD - local markets, group marketing and commercial partnerships at Nine where she had spent 12 years.

Another senior Snap executive exits

Snap's ANZ sales lead Matt Coote has exited the social media business after eight years, AdNews can reveal. Coote, a founding member of Snap ANZ, said the move was led by a personal decision to relocate to Newcastle after having his second child. This marks the second Snap sales exit in recent months with ANZ sales director Ellie Rogers telling AdNews she  resigned to focus on building her consulting business from Byron Bay.

Sunita Gloster becomes chair of Diversity Council Australia

Advertising industry leader Sunita Gloster is the new chair of the board of directors at the Diversity Council Australia (DCA), an independent body leading diversity and inclusion (D&I) in the workplace. She joined the not-for-profit’s board as a director in May and was appointed as chair following an annual general meeting (AGM). Gloster, a former a former CEO of the AANA and an advocate for gender equality, replaces Ming Long.

PHD promotes Ryan Ambrose to Melbourne head of investment

PHD Australia has promoted Ryan Ambrose to Melbourne head of investment. Ambrose steps into the new role as the market’s investment lead, returning to Melbourne after a stint as a group investment director in Sydney. Tasked with delivering PHD’s investment product, Ambrose will also advance PHD Melbourne’s investment community and client offering.

Toni Westlake named Big Red Group's head of brand and marketing

Big Red Group has appointed Toni Westlake as its head of brand and marketing. Westlake will play a critical role in building out the marketing team and supporting long-term sustainable growth for Big Red Group and its portfolio of consumer brands - including RedBalloon, Adrenaline and ExperienceOz. She will report to the company’s chief customer and sustainability officer, Jemma Fastnedge, and is based at the headquarters in Sydney.

Nine's chief information & technology officer goes

Memo Hayek, Nine's chief information & technology officer, is departing following a restructure. She came to Nine in March 2023 from the Commonwealth Bank. Alex Parsons, chief digital officer, told staff in a memo that Bec Haagsma has been named chief product & technology officer.

Zitcha brings former News Corp execs onboard

Unified retail media platform Zitcha has appointed Kate Marshall and Genevieve Cleaver to newly created senior roles. Marshall joins as customer success director with a remit to oversee Zitcha’s portfolio of clients across international markets including, US, Canada, UK, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Genevieve Cleaver has been appointed as customer success lead for Zitcha across APAC. 

Intuit brings on Anthony Capano to run ANZ

Intuit Inc, the global financial technology platform that makes Intuit TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, has appointed Anthony Capano as the regional director for Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). He has previously served as EVP at Amplified Intelligence, MD for Rakuten Advertising and GM at Salmat. 

Travis Wright becomes chief product officer of Ecommerce Equation

Ecommerce Equation (EE), a tech-enabled education coaching platform focused on digital marketing strategies and business building, has named Travis Wright to the newly created role of chief product officer. Prior to joining EE, Wright was CEO of Tigerlily for 3 years. She was also founder of Travel by Travis and GM of Esther & Co.
