Movers & Shakers: Nine, Ikon, Starcom, ARN

It's hard to keep up with all the latest moves across media, marketing and advertising, so we've made a list. Check out the biggest moves in adland this week.

Virgin Mobile marketer joins Westpac

Former director of brand and customer at Virgin Mobile, Nicole Bardsley, has joined Westpac as head of brand strategy. Bardsley, who was also part of The Marketing Academy in 2015, recently joined the banking group. During her five years at the mobile brand, Bardsley oversaw the #MealForAMeal partnership with OzHarvest and a content partnership with Vice, to support Virgin’s 'Making Mobile Better' campaign. Anna Karena returns to Lavender as chief creative officer

CX agency Lavender has lured back Anna Karena as chief creative officer, following a three year stint at Wunderman as ECD. She replaces Marco Eychenne who quietly exited Lavender in October this year after five years at the business. Karena was a founding team member when Lavender opened 20 years ago and enjoyed a 15-year stint at the agency. Read more here.

Starcom Melbourne MD Peter Toone departs

Starcom Melbourne managing director Peter Toone has resigned and will leave the agency at the end of the year. Toone has been with Starcom for 11 years, during which time he worked his way from account director, through to group business director, was appointed Melbourne GM in 2012, and eventually MD in early 2016. Toone will be replaced as MD and a search is currently underway.

Ikon hires new strategy lead

Ikon has appointed Hugh McGilligan as its new national head of strategy and Pia Coyle has been promoted to national head of investment. McGilligan joins the agency following a lengthy stint in New York working in strategy roles on brands such as Verizon, Whirlpool, Mazda, Axe/Lynx, Heineken and Dos Equis. Most recently at Millward Brown Vermeer in New York, McGilligan has also worked at Edelman, Hill & Knowlton, and Y&R Brands. Coyle joins McGilligan on the national team, having first joined Ikon in 2011. Coyle has been promoted through several roles including head of media services and trading director

Y&R Brisbane appoints MD from Clemenger Melbourne

Adam Kennedy has taken the MD role at Y&R Brisbane, exiting Clemenger Melbourne. Kennedy was group business director at Clemenger for nearly four years, leading the CUB and Fonterra accounts. His move follows a slate of other leadership changes at the agency. Leading a team of more than 60 staff, Kennedy will report directly to Y&R regional CEO AUNZ Phil McDonald.

ARN ramps up commercial team

ARN has hired former Daily Mail commercial director Mason Rook as its new commercial director. Mason will be responsible for leading the Sydney and Brisbane commercial teams and will report to chief commercial officer Emma-Jayne Owens. He has more than 15 years of media experience in TV and digital sales from his roles at Seven Network, and Ninemsn/Mi9. He starts his role in January.

Nine’s Melbourne MD Ian Paterson shifts roles

Nine managing director Ian Parterson has moved from his role of six years to the newly created role of director, commercial partnerships and affiliates. Melbourne’s local director of sales Matt Scriven will step up into the role of managing director. In his new role, Paterson will take on executive responsibility for driving the performance of Nine’s affiliate partnership with Southern Cross Austereo.
