McDonald’s names PepsiCo marketer as CMO
McDonald’s has confirmed that Jenni Dill, former PepsiCo Australia top marketer, will take over as CMO of the fast food chain in Australia. Dill replaces Mark Lollback, who left at the tail end of 2015 to take on the CEO role of media buying network GroupM. At the same time Margaret Zabel who had joined a year before, also left McDonald’s marketing team. Read more here.
Google names Australian managing director
Google has named Jason Pellegrino as managing director of Google Australia & New Zealand. Pellegrino is currently the director of Asia Pacific sales operations and strategy at Google. He has held a number of roles with Google over seven years including sales, and leading its mobile sales division for a time. Read more here.
Ben Welsh exits M&C for DDB
DDB has hired Ben Welsh from M&C Saatchi to fill the role of chief creative officer of its Sydney office. Welsh had been a long-serving executive creative director of the agency before being promoted to creative chairman of Asia in September last year. He had been with M&C Saatchi Sydney for 18 years, before that he worked for DDB and McCann. Read more here.
Mars restructures marketing, global CMO steps down
Bruce McColl, the global CMO of Mars, is stepping down from his role as part of a restructure of the global marketing organisation that will bring sales and marketing closer together. Mars is axing the CMO role and Andrew Clarke who was appointed chief customer officer in 2015 is taking on the newly created role of chief marketing and customer officer. Read more here.
Carat Melbourne promotes Paul Wilkinson to head of commercial
Carat Melbourne trading director, Paul Wilkinson, has been promoted to the newly created role of head of commercial and investment. Wilkinson will work closely with internal client leads to optimise business and commercial value for clients. Read more here.
PayPal names new marketing director
PayPal Australia has named former Westpac marketing lead, Elaine Herlihy, as its marketing director for Australia. Herlihy previously led marketing and brand at Westpac and she joins the business as PayPal launches its 'New Money' campaign locally. Read more here.
Toby Talbot resigns from DDB Sydney
DDB Sydney chief creative officer has Toby Talbot has resigned from his role in Sydney to return to New Zealand. Talbot will be departing to take on a role as managing partner of New Zealand agency Assignment Auckland. VCCP ECD Mark Harricks recently left a role at VCCP to take on a creative director position at the company. Read more here.
Initiative names Marcelle Gomez as Sydney MD
Marcelle Gomez has been promoted to managing director of Initiative Sydney, filling a leadership position that had remained vacant for two years. Gomez, who was national chief implementation and investment officer of Initiative Australia, begins her new role with immediate effect. Read more here.
Initiative names new COO and head of digital
Initiative Australia has promoted Geoff Clarke to chief operating officer and Hannah Rook to national head of digital. Clarke, a former MD of MediaCom Sydney, has been client partner at Initiative. In his new role, Clarke will continue to manage his Sydney client portfolio and ensure the agency’s national resources, systems and procedures function efficiently. Read more here.
Sparc Media appoints managing director
Stacey Delaney has been appointed managing director of Sparc Media - heading up the Australian and NZ agency and direct advertiser business. She will be responsible for leading the business through rapid expansion in the region, which includes the recent opening of a Melbourne office. Read more here.
Tony Martin to join Nova breakfast for interim stint
Comedian Tony Martin will be joining the Chrissie, Sam and Browny breakfast show from 9 May as Sam Peng heads to Stockholm to host the Australian coverage of the Eurovision Song Competition. This will mark the eighth year that Peng co-hosts SBS's coverage of the event with Julia Zemiro.
Former ACCC boss on board with Uber
Uber Technologies has appointed the former head of Australia's consumer watchdog, Allan Fels, to its new global advisory board on public policy, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. The new board will seek to influence global debate on transportation issues and other policy areas.
GQ magazine editor resigns
The editor of GQ Australia magazine, Matthew Drummond, has left the position after less than a year in the job, The Australian reports. The former journalist from The Australian Financial Review resigned last week.
Jason Derulo joins Hit Network’s RNB Fridays
RNB Superstar Jason Derulo is set to take over RNB Friday, Hit Network, playing his favourite RNB tunes nationally every Friday from 9am beginning 13 May.
Joel Pearson joins Whybin\TBWA Sydney
Joel Pearson has joined Whybin\TBWA Sydney as its planning director, after a 14-month stint as PhD's head of digital innovation. Pearson had previously worked at Whybin in 2012.
