HERO Brisbane appoints Bec McCall group creative director
Independent agency HERO has boosted its Brisbane creative firepower with the appointment of Bec McCall as group creative director. With more than 15 years experience, McCall will creatively and strategically support HERO’s national client portfolio, supporting its offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. McCall joins HERO after a stint at Clemenger BBDO and more than eight years at RUMBLE Strategic Creative. She's worked with clients such as Tourism & Events Queensland, RSPCA, Farmland Foods, University of Queensland, Flight Centre, BaskinRobbins, and Allianz.
David Anderson, the ABC's managing director, has resigned after six years. Anderson, first appointed in 2019, was reappointed in August 2023 for a five year term. "I believe it is the right moment for leadership renewal for the next stage of the ABC's continued evolution," he said. Anderson will stay until a new managing director is appointed, probably early 2025.
Dan Hews named Publicis Sapient's head of marketing for Australia
Dan Hews has just been appointed head of marketing for Australia for digital business transformation company Publicis Sapient, a part of the Publicis Groupe. Hews has more than two decades of experience in the consulting and professional services sectors in Australia and the United Kingdom. He joins Publicis Sapient from APAC tech consultancy NCS, where he was the Australia marketing and communications lead.
Nine redundancy wave as senior journalists take the exit package
Journalists, many of them reportedly senior, at Nine Entertainment have taken redundancy packages as the media group sheds overheads in a weak advertising market and the loss of revenue from social media platform Meta. The run for the door follows Nine's plans to cut up to 200 roles and after industrial action in newsrooms for better pay which resulted in a new deal. The company has confirmed that 85 staff will be leaving. Many, but not all, of those are voluntary redundancies.
SafetyCulture names Aisling Finch VP of marketing
Finch joins following 13 years at Google where she was most recently senior director of marketing for Australia and New Zealand. Finch will oversee a team of 30 across brand, communications and acquisition, focused on increasing the global brand awareness and customer growth of SafetyCulture as it tracks towards an ambitious target of 100 million users by 2032.
Pankind expands team with Astrid Mallard
Pankind, a funder for pancreatic cancer medical research and patient support, has named Astrid Mallard as head of marketing. She was formerly the head of marketing and communications at Australian Red Cross.
