It's hard to keep up with all the latest moves across media, marketing and advertising, so we've made a list. Check out some of the biggest moves this week.

Matt Batten joins Five by Five as new ECD

Independent agency Five by Five Global has appointed Matt Batten to the role of executive creative director of its Sydney business. Batten joins from Momentum Worldwide where he was ECD since late 2020, and prior at Edge and Wunderman in the UK and Australia. This appointment comes as the agency consolidates its leadership team in Australia with Stacia Grooby now heading up strategy.

Seven appoints Dan Sinfield business director

The Seven Network has appointed Dan Sinfield group business director, reporting to Seven’s NSW sales director, Georgie Nichols. Sinfield is a senior industry leader with over 25 years’ experience, most recently as GM of Premium Content Alliance. His previous roles include Industry Director – FMCG, Auto and QSR at Meta, MD at Carat Australia, head of trading and implementation at OMD Australia, business director at Mindshare and associate director at OMD UK.

Stan Grant swaps the ABC for a professor's gown

Journalist Stan Grant has been appointed the inaugural director of the Constructive Institute Asia Pacific in the Faculty of Arts at Monash University. He will be tackling misinformation and disinformation in a transformed media environment. Grant stepped down from his role as a presenter at the ABC last month following social media abuse linked to the national broadcaster's coverage of the coronation of King Charles.

Ita Buttrose to step down as ABC chair

Ita Buttrose won't be seeking reappointment as chair of the national broadcaster the ABC when her term ends in March 2024. The federal government will begin a selection process, via the independent Nomination Panel for ABC and SBS appointments, to appoint the next chair.

Spark Foundry's Frank Curcio to CHEP Media

CHEP Media has appointed Frank Curcio head of product. Curcio joins from Spark Foundry, where he was the agency’s planning lead across clients including Toyota, Lexus, Saputo, Cancer Council, Peter’s and more. He will join CHEP Media’s leadership team, taking responsibility for delivering a best-in-class planning product.

Foxtel Media's Nev Hasan promoted to chief sales officer

Foxtel Media has promoted Nev Hasan to chief sales officer from executive director of agency sales. He has been with the company for more than 15 years, working on the convergence of television and digital sales to create a simplified ad buying experience for the industry and championing adtech investment and enhanced usability across the group.

Paramount’s Rick Maier to move into new role next year

Paramount Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) have announced that Rick Maier, head of drama and executive production, will move into a newly created role as creative advisor of drama, Paramount ANZ, from early next year. The newly created role will afford Maier more time to oversee and represent Paramount across key local dramas and advise on international dramas for co-productions and acquisitions including series such as NCIS: Sydney, Last King of The Cross and Neighbours.

Meltwater bolsters sales team with two hires

Meltwater, a company specialising in media intelligence and data analytics, has appointed Allen Bradley as the regional sales director for Sydney and Jeff Piniros as the new sales development director APAC. Formerly of Salesforce, Piniros has over two decades of experience in senior sales manager and business development roles with major global tech companies, including Dell, Oracle and Gartner.

Orchard appoints Bridget Ash to content and activations director

Digital creative agency Orchard has appointed Bridget Ash to the newly created role of content and activations director. Ash returns to Orchard after a six-year stint working with global consumer and healthcare brands across the UK including AstraZeneca, Sanofi, Unilever, Novartis, Janseen and more.

Alistair Pratten to head production at Today the Brave

Independent agency Today the Brave has appointed Alistair Pratten head of production. He brings a diverse skill set to the agency having worked across everything from live TV, promos, documentaries, commercial, online content, post production and animation. His roles have included head of broadcast for The Works Sydney, executive producer for the Editors and most recently national head of production for Wunderman Thompson overseeing the production offering of three offices nationally.

Adam King named Pinterest's sales manager

Adam King has taken on the role of sales manager for Pinterest Australia and New Zealand. King joined Pinterest to lead the emerging business focused on connecting Financial Services, Tech, Telco, Government and Entertainment industries with their audiences on Pinterest. He joins Pinterest from TikTok, where he spent the last two and a half years leading TikTok’s Growth Team. Prior to TikTok, King worked at Acast and Spotify, both in the UK and Australia.
