The coronavirus outbreak has continued to have a ripple effect across the advertising industry as more global events are cancelled.

The virus, which has infected more than 100,000 people around the world and killed close to 3,500 people, has caused widespread panic regarding large-scale events.

Last week, Salesforce moved its Sydney World Tour event to an online-only event amid the health concerns surrounding the virus.

A number of companies have also issued travel bans for staff.

AdNews has compiled a wrap of all the latest global event cancellations happening across the industry.

At the moment, Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics are still scheduled to go ahead. Check back here for updates.

SXSW
Interactive media, music and film festival SXSW, held in the Texan capital of Austin, is the latest event to be cancelled. The event draws a crowd of more than 70,000 people - many of whom travel from overseas to attend. The festival was forced to shut down by the City of Austin following pressure from a petition, which received more than 40,000 signatures, calling for the organisers to cancel the event. In a statement on its website, SXSW said:

"The City of Austin has cancelled the March dates for SXSW and SXSW EDU. SXSW will faithfully follow the City’s directions.

We are devastated to share this news with you. “The show must go on” is in our DNA, and this is the first time in 34 years that the March event will not take place. We are now working through the ramifications of this unprecedented situation."

The organisers are hoping to bring some of the experiences online.

Adobe
Tech company Adobe has cancelled its annual conference in Las Vegas. The Adobe Summit drew more than 16,000 people from around the world last year. Like Salesforce and SXSW, Adobe plans to bring the conference to life online. In a statement, the company said it made the decision to “protect the health and wellbeing of Adobe Summit attendees.”

Facebook
Social media giant Facebook has cancelled its Global Marketing Summit held in San Francisco. The company was among the first to cancel its events, announcing last month that it would axe the event. "Our priority is the health and safety of our teams, so out of an abundance of caution, we cancelled our Global Marketing Summit due to evolving public health risks related to coronavirus." It also cancelled F8, its conference for developers to be held in San Jose, California.

Google
Like its fellow tech companies, Google has moved its events online. The tech giant was due to hold the Google Cloud Next: Digital Connect in San Francisco in April and Google I/O in Mountain View in May. “Innovation is in Google’s DNA and we are leveraging this strength to bring you an immersive and inspiring event this year without the risk of travel."
