Billionaires Elon Musk, of Tesla and Twitter, and Mark Zuckerberg, of Facebook, now really have something to fight about.
Meta appears ready to launch a microblogging platform, Threads, a text based conversation app and a competitor to Twitter.
Analysts and industry players see Threads as a real competitor to Twitter, which has seen an exodus in advertisers since Musk bought the social media platform last year for $US44 billion.
Musk and Zuckerberg have been vocal publicly lately, apparently both agreeing to a cage fight to work out their differences.
The new Meta app, being pitched to Instagram's two billion monthly active users and its ironed on advertisers, is expected to be available in Australia sometime early Friday.
Twitter has 363.7 million monthly users.
"Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow," according to the description about Threads, an Instagram app, in the Apple store.
"Whatever it is you’re interested in, you can follow and connect directly with your favorite creators and others who love the same things — or build a loyal following of your own to share your ideas, opinions and creativity with the world.
