Melbourne is steadily increasing its global creative rankings reaching 16 on the latest Cannes Lions global report, while Sydney's decline is continuing.

While Sydney still sits above Melbourne on the list, it fell to 13th place in 2016, down from ninth place in 2015. The NSW city was eighth overall in 2014 meaning that Sydney is loosing its creative fire-power on a global scale.

Meanwhile, Auckland, New Zealand is fourth on the global list – a massive jump from 19 in 2015. It's success is largely on back of a slew of wins for Y&R's Burger Kind McWhopper work, and Colenso's Brewtroleum campaign.

While Sydney agencies as a whole might be sliding backwards in the ranking, the list ranks Leo Burnett Sydney as the msot cretive agency within Australia.

Leos is followed by Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, DDB, TBWA\Melbourne and Grey Melbourne.

Australia took home 71 Lions in total this year, making us the fourth most awarded country following The US (354), UK (164) and Brazil (90).

Samsung was named the most creative client, followed by Burger King and Microsoft.
