MEAA members of Are Media secure pay rise and increase in conditions

MEAA members at Are Media have secured a major pay rise and significant upgrades to many of their conditions, including annual grading reviews and caregiver leave.

Almost 90% of Are Media workers voted “yes” to the new Enterprise Agreement last week, which includes a 13% pay rise over three years as the old Bauer and Pacific magazine groups are brought in under one Enterprise Agreement.

Other elements of the Enterprise Agreement include expanding coverage to include deputy editors, who previously missed out on pay rises and conditions; working from home provisions; paid leave for a miscarriage; a commitment to paid training and equipment; and the MEAA Journalist Code of Ethics included in the agreement.

MEAA said these results came about because management was forced to listen as workers increasingly stood together, came to meetings, and grew the union in the workplace.

Are Media is the publisher of such titles as The Australian Women’s Weekly, TV Week, New Idea and Gourmet Traveller.
