Sportsbet's 'Faster-er. Easier-er. Better-er' app ads are rubbing some people the wrong way, but the Ad Standards Bureau has cleared the online betting company of any wrong-doing despite receiving multiple complaints that the ads are sexist.
Complaints against the ad took offense to the portrayal of the female figure in the commerical noting "I was offended by the depiction of the woman who offered a power solution to the mobile user in a way that suggests that she wouldn't know what was needed to power a modern mobile."
The TV ad also drew ire from complainants for the portrayal of a male who doesn't call his wife back after he makes his bet using the Sportsbet app because his phone dies.
It noted: "Shortly after in the ad the man is relieved to have avoided a call from his wife due to his phone dying. Making his wife appear as someone he would happily avoid while online gambling."
The ASB dismissed the complaints acknowledging that while "the man's behaviour could be considered disrespectful to his wife, it is intended to be lighhearted."
In response Sportsbet said it "regrets if the jovial nature of the advertisement was either misconstrued or may have offended the complainants."
