KFC NZ has launched its first pop-up fish and chip shop, KF&C, in Auckland .
The fast-food chain served up secret recipe fish paired with seasoned chips and a secret recipe fish burger outside Mairangi Bay Surf Life Saving Club on Friday and Saturday from 12pm to 7pm.
Activation agency Special PR revealed that the event was a one-off experience, confirming there are no plans to bring KF&C back, despite the high demand.
“The idea emerged from an April Fool’s joke that KFC put on their socials in 2023, and then the agency village worked together to bring it to life,” Special PR told AdNews.
“The campaign was incredibly successful, completely selling out with people travelling as far as Hamilton just to try it,” a spokesperson said.
“Across two days, KFC raised $40,000 for its long-standing charity partner Surf Life Saving New Zealand – exceeding the initial goal of $25,000.”
All of the sales proceeds are being donated to KFC’s charity partner Surf Life Saving New Zealand, the national association representing more than 4500 volunteer and paid surf lifeguards from 74 Surf Life Saving Clubs.
Surf Life Saving New Zealand GM, lifesaving, Andy Kent thanked the team at KFC for their ongoing support.
“For 12 years KFC’s generous support has helped us educate people on water safety and support our clubs and surf lifeguards so everyone can enjoy the beach more safely,” he told AdNews.
“This year has been no exception and we’re so grateful to KFC and all the people who came to Mairangi Bay to enjoy some great food in incredible surroundings.
“The funds raised will help us support our clubs and surf lifeguards, and educate people on water safety, so everyone can enjoy the beach more safely not just this summer but for many summers to come.”
