Nova has removed a controversial video featuring a naked Ryan 'Fitzy' Fitzgerald surprising Sunrise host Samantha Armytage, following a barrage of complaints from feminist group Destroy the Joint.
The prank video, posted on Friday, features Armytage being led into a darkened 'Panic Room'. Armytage is asked to feel in front of her, encountering a naked Fitzy. She runs screaming from the room as the lights are switched on.
The video attracted condemnation online, with Destroy the Joint accusing Nova of "trivialising sexual harrassment as entertainment". "Is sexual harassment funny? According to Sydney based radio station Nova FM it is," writes the group. "Apparently they find the idea of a woman being ambushed in the dark by a naked man simply hilarious."
Nova removed the video yesterday, posting on its Facebook page: "Nova 96.9 acknowledges the feedback received in relation to the recent ‘Panic Room’ video and as a direct response to this, we have removed the video from our site. It's never our intention to be offensive at Nova and we wholeheartedly apologise for any offence caused."
Armytage appears to moved on, tweeting a picture of flowers sent by the radio duo on Friday: "Apology accepted @fitzyandwippa .. Fitzy please keep your gear on in the future, esp in this cold weather….xx"
