Australian Radio Network (ARN) has appointed independent creative agency Iris to handle branding and advertising projects as it looks to beef up its marketing team.

Iris was appointed at the end of last year without a pitch, and is tasked primarily with launching its new breakfast team of Andrew Rochford and Claire Hooper. The agency has devised the line: "The Brighter Side of Breakfast".

Iris is also working on a through-the-line marketing campaign, set to launch in the first half of 2011, which will focus on Sydney's Mix 106.5 and the new breakfast team.

Newly appointed ARN national marketing director Jodie Koning told AdNews: "I love working with Iris. They are great thinkers, they can work on multiple platforms, and the fact that they are independent means their focus and care is more substantial."

Although Iris has been hired on a project basis, Koning said the agency may be retained for a longer period, depending on performance.

Meanwhile, Koning is currently looking to expand ARN's marketing team, with the addition of a Melbourne-based marketing manager, and a Sydney-based marketer.

Koning, who was most recently innovation manager at Diageo, was appointed to her new role at the end of 2010.

"ARN is making a definite effort to increase our marketing activity," Koning said. At the end of December, ARN appointed MediaCom to handle its media buying.
