Interbrand's David Rennie has been elevated to national managing director of DDB Group's digital technology business Tribal.

In this new role, Rennie will lead Tribal across Australia driving stronger integration with the DDB Group and broadening its capabilities, working with the leadership teams in the Sydney and Melbourne offices.

Placing Rennie in the role is part of DDB Group's plans to expand the global digital agency's presence and creative offering for its clients in the Australian market.

Rennie says he "jumped" at the opportunity to lead Tribal in the Australian market.

"I’m excited to expand Tribal’s capabilities and pivot the business toward a more consultancy mindset that provides proactive advisory for clients," Rennie says.

"I have a great passion for creating the agency of the future and am looking forward to transforming the Tribal company.”

Rennie joined Interbrand in 2017 from WhiteGrey as CX director before being promoted to managing director in 2018.

During his time at Interbrand, he helped win a string of new business, doubled the revenue of the agency and lowered attrition.

DDB Australia CEO Andrew Little says that Rennie's leadership was behind the "fantastic growth" that Interbrand had seen over the last two years.

"We believe his next step is driving the Tribal business across our Sydney and Melbourne offices and building a stronger digital offering within the DDB Group," Little says.

“Not only does Davy have a successful track record in growing business, he has also played a significant role in creating a strong culture within Interbrand and has been an advocate within the industry. We are confident he is the right person to take Tribal forward.”

Rennie has also held tenures in customer experience and design at Deloitte Digital, Avanade and Reactive.

He will commence his new role in April with a replacement at Interbrand to be named in the coming weeks.

Earlier this year, DDB Sydney appointed former managing director of Y&R Australia and New Zealand Sasha Firth as the agency's managing partner.

This year has also seen the group undergo a global rebrand opting to use its full name, Doyle Dane Bernbach, in the visual identity to leverage its heritage and legacy.
