Our Industry Profile takes a look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, ad tech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.
This week we speak to Zenith national marketing and commercial director Kylie Sneddon.
Time in current role/time at the company:
18 months in current role, three and a half years at Zenith.
How would you describe what the company does?
We partner with our clients to grow their business and brands.
What do you do day-to-day?
Work on prospecting and live pitches, develop and implement ways to grow Zenith and it’s people’s profile.
Define your job in one word:
Multi-tasking.
I got into marketing because:
It was an industry with a lot of swagger back in the day and much more interesting than accountancy (I studied accounting as a back-up along with marketing).
What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role?
Creating positive momentum at a time when the industry is going through constant change and uncertainty.
What’s the biggest industry-wide challenge you’d like to see tackled?
The talent crisis – train and retain quality staff (by supporting and protecting them).
Previous industry related companies you have worked at:
Procter & Gamble, Accenture, UM Sydney and London, Starcom London.
Notable ads/campaigns you have worked on:
Too many to mention at this stage…and less of a focus in my current role.
Who has been a great mentor to you and why?
Mary Ann Azer – we worked together at P&G. I learnt a lot from her approach to balancing work and life priorities. She really understands all elements of marketing and business and is an inspirational & involved mentor of people and talent.
Words of advice for someone wanting a job like yours?
Jump into something new every day; never stop learning and evolving or else you won’t be able to keep up…
If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:
Travelling the world as a travel show host.
My mantra is:
Life is short, focus on what really matters…
My favourite advert is:
Bud Light & HBO cross-over super bowl ad. Incredible they could co-ordinate all of the different stakeholders.
Music and TV streaming habits. What do you subscribe to?
Netflix, Stan, Spotify, Amazon. Family movies are now my main viewing opportunity, but GoT and Billions are getting a good work out at the moment.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I own a sewing machine. A must-have for all modern, empowered independent females don’t you know…sadly I haven’t used it in 20 years.
In five years' time I'll be:
Happy.
