Our Industry Profile takes a look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.
This week we speak to Xaxis national head of client development Nick Brignell.
Time at the company:
I’ve been national head of Client Development since February, but I’ve been at GroupM and Xaxis three and a half years.
How would you describe what the company does?
We drive digital business outcomes for our clients.
What do you do day-to-day?
I work with clients to maximise their business outcomes through forging better multi-channel digital media spend ROI.
Define your job in one word:
Evolving.
I got into adtech because:
I couldn’t be a bartender forever.
What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role?
Adtech/ martech system integrations can be challenging, but when done successfully they build intelligent processes that are beneficial for transparency, growth, scalability and reporting for the brand and the agency.
What’s the biggest industry-wide challenge you’d like to see tackled?
Mental health issues. From top to bottom in this industry anyone can be affected. However, I think most companies are doing a great job in recognising and tackling this particularly during this pandemic.
Previous industry related companies you have worked at:
Zenith, News Corp and InMobi.
Who is/has been a great mentor to you and why?
Dilhani Robinson, one of my first bosses at Zenith. She has always been a great sounding-board for me, telling me the things I need (and don’t need) to hear.
Words of advice for someone wanting a job like yours?
Take the plunge, it’s a constantly changing eco-system and you’ll never be bored.
If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:
Paying for my own drinks.
My mantra is:
It's not how good you’re doing, its how long you’re doing good.
My favourite advert is:
Nike - Godzilla Vs Charles Barkley, I like how the campaign forged together cultural touchstones. Also, I liked the shoes.
Music and TV streaming habits. What do you subscribe to?
Spotify/Netflix/ Stan and Disney+. Disney+ gets the most run in the house however, due to the kids.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
When I’m at my desk with my earphones in, there is a good chance I’m pumping a power ballads playlist on Spotify.
