Our Industry Profile takes a look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.

Tara Peck: programmatic account director at The Guardian Australia

Time in current role:

Twelve months.

How would you describe what the company does?

The Guardian is Australia's leading independent and progressive news publisher, producing award-winning journalism and in-depth storytelling that is free for all.

What do I do day to day?

As a programmatic account director no day is the same, but I manage all programmatic relationships with agencies, trading teams and SSPs. I'm lucky I get to work closely with our buyers and team nationally as well as HQ in the UK.

Define your job in one word:

Dynamic.

I got into my industry because:

Advertising was never really the plan, but I love problem solving and challenging myself and I've had many opportunities to do just that.

What’s the biggest industry wide challenge you’d like to see tackled?

Sustainability and the carbon impact of the programmatic supply chain is a topic I'm increasingly interested in. If we can work towards metrics that are consistent and measurable within our industry, I think anything that will shift the dial on the climate crisis is worth exploring.

Previous companies:

News Corp, PubMatic, Foxtel Media (formerly MCN).

Words of advice:

Say yes and stay curious. You never know where something might lead to.

If I wasn’t doing this for a living:

I think I'd be in the beauty and wellness space; it's another industry that's always changing and innovative.

My philosophy is:

Trust the timing of your life.

My favourite advert is:

I've got a soft spot for all the TV ads of my childhood. Yellow Pages "Not Happy Jan" is an iconic tagline that I still use to this day.

Subscriptions:

I'm a reality TV Bravo-tragic so Hayu is my go to.

In five years time I'll be:
Probably still trying to explain to my parents what I actually do for a living.
