Stephen Stamatatos.

Our Industry Profile takes a look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.

This week we speak to Stephen Stamatatos, Head of Data & Response, Frontier Australia:

Time in current role/time at the company:

Six years

How would you describe what the company does?

Frontier partners with clients to develop advertising solutions that drive desired business outcomes

What do you do day-to-day?

Predict, attribute, analyse, evaluate, discover, present actionable insights, inform strategy and enjoy a few laughs with my co-workers

Define your job in one word:

BI (business intelligence)

I got into marketing/advertising/media/tech because:

I love media and math. Was a promising DR marketer until I was seduced by the ‘Dark Side’

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role?

Understanding true media channel credit for driving customer actions across a fragmented and ever evolving advertising landscape

What’s the biggest industry-wide challenge you’d like to see tackled?

Finding the nirvana (aka the silver bullet) of media attribution and performance across all advertising…I’m not holding my breath though.

Notable campaigns you have worked on:

Launch of Noom.com in ANZ  and “Find a better deal for you at finder.com.au”

Words of advice for someone wanting a job like yours?

Run away as fast as you can! LOL! Jokes aside, marketing/advertising is both a science and an art. Don’t be afraid to question and challenge established schools of thought, and where possible use data to articulate and sell your point of view.

My mantra is:

“Never half-arse your personal brand. Give what you do your all or not at all”

My favourite advert is:

Cadbury’s Gorilla ad. Chaz Michaels from Blades of Glory said it best: “No one knows what it means, but it’s provocative! It gets the people going!”

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I have more kicks (sneakers) than my wife has shoes! Shhhh…don’t tell her I just bought another funky fresh pair of Jordan IVs

In five years' time I'll be:

Living by the beach, waiting to ride that next wave in for my next coffee.
