The Independent Media Agencies of Australia (IMAA) welcomes major reform of Australia's migration system, after a review led by former public service chief Martin Parkinson called the system "broken".
The review, comissioned by the Albanese government, proposes changes to the skilled migration program, student visas and employer sponsored visas.
The overall aim is for better long-term pathways to residency for skilled workers.
Sam Buchanan, CEO of IMAA, told AdNews the media and marketing industry feels the impact of the lack of skilled migrants in Australia.
"For our members, having real reform in the skilled migration program and employer sponsored visas would be a game changer," Buchanan said.
"As a result, one of our key commitments this year is to attract talent - both local and international - to the independent media agency sector."
In February the IMAA launched a trade advertising campaign in the UK - since British media agency talent have a long established presence in Australia - selling the appealing Australian lifestyle to British media agency talent.
"Of course, we will continue to support local talent, and the recent launch of our education initiative, the IMAA Academy, is a key way we can attract, train and retain talent," Buchanan said.
