Ben Shepherd, who recently joined Thinkberbell as general manager of media, has written a book, Everything You Wanted to Know about advertising and media ... but were too afraid to ask.
"People in the industry, or new and prospective entrants, feel uncomfortable asking questions about key knowledge areas in advertising and media as they worry it will make them look silly," he says.
To fund the book's printing (not pay for the writing) he is running a Pozible campaign. The target is $10,500.
Each pledge of $35 will get a printed copy of the book, delivered within Australia.
"Basically this is a way to do a pre-order run without me having to set up a holdings account to protect anyone who makes the pre-order," he says.
"This way the funds are held by Pozible and if it misses the threshold to print, all funds go back to the person who pledged them.
"The funds are to cover expenses - not to cover the book writing. That's done."
The book says there are six foundations of knowledge for the industy: Media; Advertising; Effectiveness; Technology; Strategy; Career Development.
Shepherd says the book has taken 250 plus hours and is the product of 17 years experience. He's worked with many brands including Mazda, Samsung, Bupa, Ford, Disney, Roadshow, Diageo, Virgin, American Express, Kraft, Heinz, Coca Cola and Facebook.
"It’s (book) goal is not a commercial one - it’s aimed to share knowledge and serve as a source of information for people in the industry, as well as graduates and people considering entering it," he says.
