Honda shows the other side with interactive double sided ad

Honda has won the internet this week with its new double-sided ad promoting the Civic and the Civic Type R Concept cars. The ad titled, “The Other Side” shows two stories that run side by side and sync to the second.

The first follows a regular dad picking his daugthers up from school in a white Honda Civic. The second story is much more ‘James Bond’. The dad is in a red Civic Type R and his mission is a lot less mundane. Viewers can switch between each story by holding down the ‘R’ on your keyboard while watching.

Honda shows its dark side amongst some stunning Croatian scenery, in a shift away from the happy Honda that appeals to families and onto a fast, agile and somewhat devious vehicle that can navigate a hasty getaway with ease. Without giving away the ending, Honda makes sure that its “bad side” isn’t really all that wicked.

The video pays great attention to detail and the high speed scenes are adrenalin-inducing with the “bad guy” pressing an ‘R’ on the dash to send the slick, red car into turbo mode. Honda shows that the Civic can fill two purposes with the white version safe enough for the family and the red, swift enough to out-manoeuvre pursuit vehicles.

The film was created by Honda UK and was directed by Daniel Wolfe, of Puma's 'Dance Dictionary' fame. The ad can only be viewed on the Honda Youtube channel, but it's worth a look.
