GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has confirmed Theresa Agnew as its permanent general manager of its Consumer Healthcare division in Australia and New Zealand.
In January, AdNews revelaed that Agnew had been brought into GSK's Sydney HQ in a caretaker role after former boss Elizabeth Reynolds had been on “extended personal leave” for several months.
Agnew is the former chief marketing officer and vice president of GSK in the US and is highly regarded over there.
She will be responsible for leading the consumer healthcare business in the region, guiding strategy across a portfolio of brands, including Panadol, Voltaren, Sensodyne, Macleans, Nicabate, Polident and Otrivin.
"We’re very glad that Theresa is joining our ANZ consumer healthcare business," GSK Consumer Healthcare regional head of APAC Filippo Lanzi says.
"Since taking on the acting role in February this year, she has proven her commitment to the team and ability to help build the future of the ANZ consumer healthcare business with a focus on culture and development as well as building our brands.”
Agnew brings more than 29 years of experience in the consumer healthcare and medical devices industries.
She began her career at Johnson & Johnson and worked in a number of senior roles at LifeScan and McNeil Consumer Healthcare divisions.
"I’m looking forward to working with the team to build an even stronger foundation for our ANZ consumer healthcare business and generating sustainable growth," Agnew says.
"We have an outstanding team and market-leading brands and by partnering closely with our customers and industry, I believe we can have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of our consumers."
One of her immediate tasks could be providing local input into GSK's global media review, which primarily impacts media agency PHD, which handles media buying and planning, and Havas provides some digital strategy work.
The pharma and consumer healthcare giant confirmed the global review, which AdNews understands is periodic review, earlier this month.
