Google+ launches stories in photo storage play

Getting home from a holiday is hard.

You have to go back to work, attempt to revive dead plants and sort through hundreds of holiday snaps. Google can't help with the first two, yet, but it can now handle the third.

Google has launched stories, a feature which creates holiday movies and albums for Google+ users automatically when they back up their photos through the site.

All you need to do is upload your photos to Google+ and the site does the rest of the work for you, in a blog post the company explained: “No more sifting through photos for your best shots, racking your brain for the sights you saw, or letting your videos collect virtual dust. We’ll just gift you a story after you get home.

"This way you can relive your favourite moments, share them with others, and remember why you travelled in the first place.”

Stories runs in the background so if you already have photos uploaded to your Google+ account, you may already have some waiting for you.

The Washington Post reports that the feature amps up the company's efforts to become a better photo-managing tool in order to compete with Flickr and other photo-storage sites by doing the heavy lifting. With photos being a major focus for any company looking to improve its social efforts.
