News Limited group director of marketing, advertising & integration Garth Agius has been made redundant and leaves the media company today.

Agius told AdNews he was informed of his redundancy five or six weeks ago and decided to finish up at the end of April, tying off some projects he had been working on.

Agius said News Limited had decided to refocus its priorities and that his duties, which included internal marketing and trade media, will be absorbed by other members of the marketing team. He has not decided what his next move will be, but flagged the possibility of returning to agency side.

Prior to joining News Limited five years, Agius was sales director at Seven Network and before that managing director of OMD Media Direction and media director at DDB.

His departure comes in the midst of a raft of changes at News Limited. Earlier this week, Herald Sun deputy advertising director Agostino Giramondo rose to the post of advertising sales director across The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph. Giramondo replaced Iain Schmidt-Weichert, who unexpectedly left last month after almost two decades with the company.

Also this week, The Daily Telegraph editor Garry Linnell left after three years in the post.
