As Australia continues to unpack the latest news from the budget last night, we take a look at how the papers have reacted.
Below are the front pages from The Age, The Australian Financial Review, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Canberra Times just to name a few.
Social media exploded last night, with Twitter receiving more than 79, 000 budget related tweets since 10am Tuesday.
The five most Tweeted issues during the #Budget2016 speech were jobs, education, tax cuts, budget deficit and tobacco.
Twitter conversation during the Treasurer’s Budget speech peaked at 790 Tweets per minute as Treasurer Morrison ended his address. See The top five conversation peaks during the Budget speech below.
The most retweeted Tweet of the evening came from @AdamBandt:
Ugly: $6b cuts to unis, Medicare, welfare & pub sector but $12b in tax cuts & breaks to big biz & higher earners #Budget2016 #BetterBudget

On Facebook the two issues that were most mentioned from 7:30pm to 2:30am AEST by Australians last night were “tax cuts” and “winners losers” followed by the terms “small business” and “jobs growth”. It was all economic-related terms that generated the most online conversations, rather than social issues.
The top conversation moments were just as Treasurer Scott Morrison was wrapping up his remarks at 8:03pm (AEST) and as budget commentators were in full swing at 8:21pm. See a break down of the most mentioned topics below.
