Famed NYC ad exec combats industry sexism with canny video

How timely given last week's debacle over industry sexism and *that* party

Famed New York advertising executive Madonna Badger, credited with creating the Calvin Klein ad featuring Mark Wahlberg and Kate Moss, is tackling the issue of sexism in the industry head-on, issuing a sharp witted video revealing ads that exploit women.

The 'We Are #WomenNotObjects' video (below) exposes the regularly occuring objectification of women in a number of iconic advertising campaigns from brands such as Burger King, Budweiser and Tom Ford, to name a few.

"I love giving blow jobs to sandwiches," one woman says, holding up Burger King's shockingly bad hoagie fellatio image.

Badger, the founder of New York City-based Badger & Winters told WSJ she initiated the campaign to honour her three daughters who she lost in a Christmas house fire, along with her parents, in 2011.

She says: “I want my life to have a purpose … I love my job but I don’t want to do it if it hurts anyone”.

The video has had over 370k views on YouTube since its launch on 11 January but has started picking up momentum because of increased coverage.

An accompanying Twitter account for the drive called @Not_Objects is looking to publicise the agency's pledge never to objectify women in its creative or to airbrush females “to the point of perfection”.
