Manchester City football club head of marketing Chris Kay is to join ad agency BMF as head of account management.

Kay, who previously headed account management for Fallon in London, will start at BMF in January and work specifically on the Commonwealth Bank account.

Chief executive of BMF Jeremy Nicholas said the agency spent four months scouring the world for the best person to lead the account management team.

“Chris was the best candidate we met on that journey,” he said in a statement.

“We wanted to ensure we got the very best we could to lead the group. Chris has proven during his career he has a unique mix of passion for creative work, pragmatic business understanding and a big entrepreneurial streak.”

Kay said the opportunity to join “the leadership team of Australia's agency of the decade as it kicks on to the next level was too good to pass up”.

“BMF has that perfect mix of strategic rigour, creative ambition and account management polish, that I' looking forward to be part of,” he said in a statement.
