Digital association AIMIA is set to shut down its operations, with the industry body voluntarily closing its offices due to being no longer commercially viable. It had been in talks to merge with "a strategically complementary industry organisation" but those talks, thought to have been with the IAB, "concluded unsuccessfully".
The business has called in Ferrier Hodgson accountants, to prepare the organisation for a members vote at a special meeting on 21 December to decide its future.
AIMIA was founded in 1992 with the aim to connect and champion those working in the digital content, services and application sectors.
Tim O’Neill, AIMIA’s president said: “Since that time, the impact of AIMIA has been widespread. From the creation of our education programs, the AIMIA Awards, IAB Australia, and the annual salary survey, we have a long-standing history of supporting the growth of the digital industry. Many of our members and hall of famers have found major commercial success locally and globally, and policymakers have adopted numerous recommendations championed for by AIMIA.”
However, the group explained in an announcement this afternoon that the world of digital has become so "incredibly omnipresent across all industries" that the current scope of AIMIA is no longer viable. The organisation had four full time staff.
