Ogilvy Sydney has lured Derek Green back to Australia as its new executive creative director, following a 10 year stint abroad.

Green joins Ogilvy Sydney from Cramer Krasselt in Chicago where he was SVP, executive creative director. He will have immediate responsibility for creative leadership and creative work across Ogilvy Sydney's client roster when he returns to Australia in December.

In July Ogilvy's chief creative officer Steve Back left the group. Ogilvy Group Australia CEO David Fox told AdNews that Green was not replacing Back but would continue to build on Back's focus on creative collaboration between Ogilvy's Sydney and Melbourne offices.

“There is already very strong creative collaboration between Sydney and Melbourne; our creative team is well-versed in taking an approach as one office where required. We feel confident that Derek will continue this collaborative approach, working with Melbourne’s creative leadership to produce outstanding creative work that works both for local and national clients,” Fox said.

He also added that Green will bring a strong digital pedigree to the role and will work on integration between creative and digital.

It follows Ogilvy Sydney's latest push into digital integration with the acquisition of digital agency Bullseye in September. At the time, Fox told AdNews: “We view the way that consumers engage with brands as a post-digital era. You don’t think to yourself, well I’m going to have some digital time and then I’ll have some real world time. You’re seamlessly moving between the two.”

Green said advertising in a post-digital era is an area of focus and that he will work on integration in his new role.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to work across all media, from traditional, to experiential, and in recent years, a lot of digital, and my aim is to truly integrate UX, Media, PR, SEO, SEM and engagement planning to create big platform ideas right from the initial client briefing,” Green said.

Orginally from Sydney, Green has held roles in agencies in the UK, Europe and the US for brands including P&G, Novartis, Canon, Subaru, Diageo and Heinken.
