After nine years as Dentsu Aegis Network (DAN) global CEO, Jerry Buhlmann is stepping down and will be replaced by Tim Andree at the end of the year.

Buhlmann was appointed CEO of the Aegis Group in 2010 and oversaw the acquisition of Japanese-owned Dentsu from 2012-2013.

Based in the UK, he was previously the head of the Aegis media-buying division, Aegis Media which includes agencies such as Carat, Dentsu X and Vizeum.

Dentsu president and CEO Toshihiro Yamamoto said Buhlmann led a successful period of growth for DAN.

“From the start, Buhlmann has had a bold vision for Dentsu Aegis Network,” Yamamoto said.

“His drive and leadership has ensured that Dentsu’s acquisition of Aegis Group plc has been an outstanding success.

“The Dentsu board thanks Buhlmann for this great contribution and leadership.”

Reflecting on his own career at DAN, Buhlmann said one highlight was being able to work with talented people within a supportive parent company.

“Importantly, at this time, the quality of the executive management team is exceptional, the business has strong momentum and I’m confident will continue to thrive and grow strongly at a time of disruptive change in the market,” Buhlmann said.

Andree, who is currently the executive chairperson, will take on CEO responsibilities after Buhlmann departs on 31 December.

He said the group is ready to move into its next period of growth.

“The remarkable growth and momentum of Dentsu Aegis Network is a credit to Buhlmann and the deep and broadly talented management team that has been cultivated,” Andree said.

“I have worked hand in hand with Buhlmann and the management team over the years and for this reason, the Dentsu Aegis Network management will move to the next stage with strong continuity and stability.”

Locally, DAN has also undergone a leadership shake-up with the departure of Simon Ryan. His replacement is yet to be named.
