Following the revelations of a data breach at Kmart, high street brand David Jones has put out a consumer notice informing their customers that they also had a website breach.
David Jones discovered the breach on 25 September, and "moved swiftly" to prevent any other access.
"David Jones recently learned that a third party exploited a vulnerability in our website to extract limited information about some of our customers.
The information obtained was restricted to customer name, email address, order details and mailing address. No credit card information, financial information or passwords were obtained.
"David Jones does not store any credit card information or financial information on our website. There is no indication that the information has been misused in any way," read the statement.
Emails were sent out to affected parties, so those who have not been contacted can rest easy.
The Australian Federal Police, the Australian Information Commissioner and the Attorney General's office have allĀ been notified.
Brands on alert
The two hacking incidents have put other Australian brands on alert, with many triple-checking systems and processes in place.
One marketing boss from a national retail chain, who didn't want to be named for fear of tempting hackers, said: "It's business as normal for us and we are confident of the systems we have in place.
"We have been reading up on what's happened with Kmart, but we'd never publicly say we were not worried as we know this can act as a trigger for hackers - who may see us as a challenge."
