The Australian media editor Darren Davidson is relocating to New York to join News Corp-owned Storyful as editor-in-chief.
Davidson joined The Australian in 2011 and was promoted to editor in 2015. Prior to News Corp, he was the editor of AdNews and held roles at various publications in the UK.
He will join the executive team and report to Storyful’s chief executive Sharb Farjami, who also relocated to New York last year to lead the business.
In his new role, he will be responsible for the operations of Storyful's 70-plus editorial team across its various offices including New York, Los Angeles, London, Dublin, Hong Kong and Sydney.
Davidson, while not available for comment, said on Twitter he was "thrilled" about his new role.
Thrilled to be joining News Corp's Storyful as editor-in-chief in New York after 7 years of fun, rewarding work at The Australian. Can't wait to get involved in our exciting plans and begin working with the teams in NY, LA, London, Dublin, HK and Sydney. https://t.co/GaEiKynpPD

In a statement in The Australian, Farjami described Davidson as a "hard-driving experienced news person".
“Darren joins Storyful with a wealth of expertise in all of the areas we wanted in our quest to find a new editorial leader. He spent more than a decade as a reporter and editor breaking news that impacts the marker he covers and has a strong reputation as a manager," he said.
"Darren’s reputation as a colleague and leader in the newsroom is impeccable. We need our leaders to be willing and able to collaborate across departments, teams and regions. Darren has the right character to check all of those boxes.”
Storyful, a news aggregation social media service, was acquired by News Corp in 2013. It aims to source, verify, acquire and distribute breaking news, photos and video content.
The business has expanded into new areas recently with the launch of News Intelligence, an investigative research service for newsrooms, and training programs designed to combat misinformation on social media for the world’s largest media companies.
The Australian recently hired media writer Lily Vitorovich who replaced Dana McCauley after her departure to Fairfax.
AdNews understands News Corp has not yet lined up a replacement for Davidson.
